Terms of Use

1. About Studle

Studle is a study and productivity application for students. It provides tools to record audio you choose to capture, take notes and bookmarks, organise study material, and (as features are released) generate study aids and collaborate in Study Groups. Features may change, be added or be removed as the service develops.

2. Accounts

To use Studle you need an account. Authentication is handled through our authentication provider (Clerk). You agree to provide accurate information, to keep your sign-in method secure, and not to allow unauthorised use of your account. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• misuse Studle or use it unlawfully;
• attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, accounts or data;
• attack, overload or disrupt the service;
• upload or distribute malware or harmful code;
• abuse Study Groups or other users;
• impersonate others; or
• attempt to bypass security or access controls.

4. Recording responsibilities

Before recording lectures, meetings, conversations or other people, you must comply with:

• applicable law;
• your university's or institution's rules and policies;
• any requirements set by lecturers or organisers;
• confidentiality obligations; and
• any consent or permission required in the circumstances.

Studle is not responsible for obtaining recording permissions for you.

5. Your content

You keep your rights in the content you create or upload (your recordings, notes and study material). You grant Studle only the limited permission reasonably necessary to operate the features you ask for — for example, to store your content and process it to provide requested functionality. This licence exists solely to run the service for you and does not transfer ownership of your work to Studle.

Today, recordings and notes are stored locally on your own device; where future features store content on our infrastructure, the same principle applies.

6. Study Groups

When Study Groups are available:

• you may create persistent Study Groups, which may use join codes or invitations;
• members must respect other users and any shared material;
• your private material does not become shared simply because you join a group — only material you deliberately share becomes accessible to permitted members;
• you are responsible for the material you choose to share;
• group owners/admins may have moderation capabilities; and
• access to shared material may end when you leave or are removed from a group, or when a group is archived, depending on how the feature is implemented.

7. AI-generated content

As AI features are released, please keep in mind:

• transcripts can contain errors;
• AI-generated summaries and study material can contain errors or omissions;
• you should check generated material against your source materials;
• Studle is not an authoritative substitute for official university materials; and
• you remain responsible for any academic work you submit.

We do not overstate the accuracy of AI output, and you should not rely on it as definitive.

8. Academic integrity

Studle is intended to support your learning. You remain responsible for following your university's or school's academic-integrity rules, including any rules about permitted use of AI tools. Studle does not authorise plagiarism, cheating or any prohibited use.

9. Uploaded content

You should only upload or share material you have the right to use. Do not upload content that infringes someone else's copyright or other rights. You are responsible for the material you upload or share. This does not give Studle any broader claim over your own content than is needed to provide the service.

10. Availability

We aim to keep Studle available and reliable, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Recording and (future) transcription depend on factors including microphone and browser permissions, your internet connection, your device, and external services, some of which are outside our control.

11. Cross-device recording

Studle is designed to let a recording session move between devices you have authorised on your account. We cannot guarantee perfect continuity or that no audio gap will occur during a hand-off; any gaps should be recorded honestly rather than hidden.

12. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Studle at any time. We may suspend or end access where reasonably necessary — for example to address security incidents, abuse, unlawful use, or serious or repeated breaches of these terms. Where practical and appropriate, we will give notice.

13. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under law (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud). Subject to that, Studle is provided with reasonable care and skill but without guarantees that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable or that arises from your failure to comply with these terms.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Studle develops. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continuing to use Studle after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
